Hi! This is Rachel! Mother of three and wife to an amazing husband. We live our simply wild life in our tiny house in the last frontier. I have always wanted to start a blog and it was time to make that dream reality. I love the name of our blog, The Simply Wild Project basically sums up our life. We try to live in a simplistic way while letting our dreams run wild. It’s how we do life. I am so excited to share about the things we love and what we’ve learned in this adventure called life!

I began my adulting-life by studying to be a Social Worker. I wanted to empower people who were going through a rough season in life. Buuut… God led me on another path to Massage Therapy… in Texas… where I met a hunk of a God-loving man at a rodeo who would later become my husband. On a whimsical joke and Divine handiwork, we soon found ourselves in Alaska with two dogs and a promise to my husband to return to Texas after this Army assignment. Well… long story short, we felt that God brought us here for a reason, and decided to make Alaska our home to raise our kids. As I transitioned into motherhood, my journey to “empower people” became more focused on empowering struggling mothers to navigate all the challenges and feelings that come with being a mama. My own mama journey came with unexpected challenges that led me to become a prenatal massage therapist, lactation counselor, childbirth educator, birth doula, and somatic experiencing trainee… basically a fully equipped “mama cheerleader.” I want you mamas (and future mamas!) to know that you don’t have to walk your journey alone. So, let’s talk!

When I am interested in something I am totally passionate about it, and I am passionate about motherhood. I love being a mom, but it isn’t always easy, although it’s extremely rewarding! I will be focusing my posts on the issues faced by young families. From conception to postpartum, women’s bodies go through a marvelous transition to nurture and grow the tiny human. It can be filled with warm fuzzy moments and very choppy uncharted waters of fluctuating emotions. We’ll talk about all of that, along with other things such as my personal experiences with breastfeeding with IGT, gentle parenting, and essential oils! I’ll also share my favorite Bible passages that have helped me through life’s storms. Like I always say, where would we be without Jesus and oils?! Anyhow, that’s what the Simply Wild Project is all about… but that’s not all! My husband will be writing on the blog as well.

Hello, my name is Brady! My calling is to provide care and hope to the vulnerable populations within my community. Sounds kinda vague, right? Believe me, I know! But unfortunately, for the moment, that is all that I know. I believe that God has set me on this path, and that as I continue to follow it, He will reveal the specific details as I need them. It’s been an interesting journey so far! Here’s a snapshot of where I’ve been and what’s happening now.

I would say that I’m an outdoor enthusiast with a do-it-yourself mentality. Somehow, this drove me into the US Army where I served for seven years as a Medical Service Corps Officer. Along the way, I met and married my wife, Rachel, and soon afterward we were stationed in Alaska. The transition out of the military was quite turbulent, that first year having both times of deep despair and amazing highs. Through God’s provision, I’m now a father of three wonderful kids (one that I won’t get to meet until Heaven) and I’m a nursing student. In a few short months, I will be a Registered Nurse (hopefully working in an ER) and looking for the next piece of this puzzle that God is sharing with me.

My part with the Simply Wild Project is to add content that young men and dads will find as useful resources for their toolkits. As I’ve attended some of my wife’s childbirth classes, I’ve come to realize that there’s a huge lack of information tailored for new dads in the “birth industry.” I’ve also discovered that integrating young ones into activities that I use to do alone or together with my wife requires a whole new approach. So gents, welcome to the Simply Wild Project, where I will share my experiences and tips for surviving her pregnancy and postpartum hormones… I mean, surviving in the wilderness, balancing work obligations and dad-life, wilderness therapy, homestead projects, outdoor gear selection and reviews, and any other manly/dadly thing that might bring value to your life. Let me know how I can help!
